Ronald I. “Ron” Garcia’s 30-year career in non-profit management and administration has included all aspects of business operations with large and small to medium sized non-profit businesses. Ron’s philosophy for non-profit administration is that the mission and vision must be created by the constituents so that quality services are integrated into the very reason for existing as a non-profit. And all organizations have to develop and implement clear plans in order to be successful for the people they support with their mission.
Ron has served as the Executive Director of New Vistas, a Center for Independent Living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, since 1997. He directs systems and individual advocacy and a variety of programs and services for individuals with disabilities and children with special needs and their families. The business of New Vistas is guided by a Board of Directors made up by a majority of individuals with disabilities.
A teacher by education (B.A.), Ron started his non-profit career as a manager for Las Cumbres Learning Services (a non-profit serving children and adults with disabilities). In 1987 Las Cumbres selected him to be the Industrial Development Director to establish entrepreneurial businesses to fund the non-profit’s mission. He was also one of five individuals from New Mexico who received the necessary Region VI training to develop and implement Supported Employment Programs across New Mexico for individuals with developmental disabilities. He then honed his administrative skills at St. Hospital for six years (his last three years as the director of operations improvement).
Ron’s lifelong commitment to people with disabilities, his 30 years of management and progressive administrative experience along with a positive temperament are well matched to provide direction for an organization that must operate in a fiscally responsible manner and demonstrate meaningful benefits to its consumers over time.
